Aquilegia Chrysantha

Calgary, Zone 3, June 27, 2015.  This is supposed to be a smaller version of the normal Aquilegia Chrysantha, and it probably is, since size when blooming is about 40 cm high x 30 cm wide.

The original plant is ten years old now; this self-seeded one is about five years old.  The self-seeded plants in the garden seem to have established themselves in a variety of places (crevices between rocks, at the front of borders, in part shade in rich soil between hostas) and thrive everywhere, although they are more dwarf in full sun and in leaner soil.  As befits their Arizona origin, they are drought-tolerant.

In our relatively cool summer these normally bloom for at least a month, and sometimes as much as six weeks.
