Garden Descriptions:
This is a unique opportunity for rock gardeners to explore three gardens that are very different and unique due the elevations and climatic conditions ranging form 5,300 to 8,200 feet.
Denver Botanic Gardens
Well known for its large Rock Alpine Garden and extensive western North American natives, along with its internationally diverse alpine and steppe collections. Make sure to check out the rather recent addition of the Mordecai Children’s Garden on top of the parking garage featuring an extensive alpine habitat and three crevice gardens.
Yampa River Botanic Park
A national gem of a garden, the various gardens include extensive rock gardens, a large crevice garden, Penstemon garden, native gardens and traditional gardens.
Mike Kintgen’s private garden in North Routt County
Started when Mike was 7 years old, this garden has developed into a collection of plants that thrive at 8,200 feet, and features many alpines, western natives and any plant that stands a chance in a rather short growing season.
