NARGS Board Member Tony Avent was awarded the 2025 Veitch Memorial Medal. The Royal Horticultural Society’s Veitch Memorial Medal is given to those “of any nationality who have made an outstanding contribution to the advancement of the science and practice of horticulture.”  His nomination reads, in part, “Tony Avent is one of America’s most influential horticulturists, known for his profound contributions to plant conservation, breeding, and education.  As the founder of Plant Delights Nursery and Juniper Level Botanic Garden, he has introduced more than 1,400 new plant species, cultivars, hybrids into cultivation, many discovered through his extensive plant exploration efforts across the United States and beyond. JLBG now houses one of the world’s largest collections, with more than 27,000 taxa from 1,400 genera, serving as a crucial resource for research, conservation, and plant breeding.”
