Dichelostemma

Dichelostemma volubile is a bulb that makes a twining flower stem. It's native to California. It grew for me in a pot, but it would not bloom until I planted it in the garden. Here it is supported by a tomato cage.

Dichelostemma ida-maia is the better-known firecracker plant. It gets pollinated by hummingbirds.

Both grow for me in full sun in sandy loam soil. The soil does not get fully dry in Summer. I don't know how cold-hardy they are.
