South African Bulbs 2017

Forums:

Gloriosa superba is from South Africa right through to the tropics, I believe. In northern Australia it has actually become a weed as it spreads by seed and offsets. All parts of the plant are also poisonous!

We grow it in pots to try to keep it drier during winter when it is dormant

Thanks, Fermi,

I always enjoy seeing the bright colors in your garden at this time of year.  When I look out at my garden, I see lots of pink and white from colchicums.  The only bright color is from zauschnerias (epilobiums).

HI Claire,

glad you enjoy the flowers - we'll soon be into summer which is when everything tends to slow down because of the heat!

Here's another babiana, Babiana spathacea - in white and cream forms
