Posting photos to the plant gallery

Sorry, trying to help but can't.  I was able to add species/photos to the plant database at one time in the past within the new forum software (mostly) successfully but I don't seem to be able to now.  I'm not sure if the set-up has changed or what.  I attempted to add a photo to an existing species entry but could only add such that it ended up in the "Description" box, which was not what I intended.

I have e-mailed Todd, who used to administer the database (and may still be doing that?), and Daniel (general website admin), to see if they can help.

Here are some instructions.

Adding a photo to an existing genus in the database:

1.  Log in, if you have not already done so.

2. Click on your username at the top right of the screen.   

(Note:    If you click on Plants/Rock Garden Plants, in the menu across the slightly lower white part of the screen, you will only be able to edit existing info in the entry; photos can only be added into the Description field.  You must follow these instructions if your intent is to add photos or plants.)

3. On the left-hand side of the screen, you will see a category called Create Content.  

To add plants or photos to the Plants/Rock Garden Plants database, click on Create Plant.

4.  Select the genus from the genus dropdown list.  Type in the species, and the cultivar name (in single quotes) if applicable.   

5.  Under Feature Image, select the photo you want to add from your computer, and hit Upload.

6.  Add some comments to Description, if you like (optional).  Note that using Embedded Image will only post a selected photo to within the Description box.

7.  Click on Yes in the Needs Review box.

8.  Then click on Preview to check your entry, or on Save to publish it.

Adding a new genus to the database:

If you adding a genus to the database that is not already available in the genus dropdown list, here's how:

Beneath the Genus dropdown box, a sentence reads: "If you cannot find the desired genus, you must create it here".  Clicking on the word "here" will take you to a screen where a new genus can be added.    

**Note, however, that this function is not accessible right now.  I have reported it and will let you know when it's fixed.

Success!  I added Heuchera pulchella.  Thanks Lori and Todd.

Lori, now you can add your own image of Heuchera pulchella to the database. 

Also, would you mind having a look at my entry?  It is not quite in the same format as your Heuchera entries, where there is a separate box under the species with a clickable picture and some additional text.  Is that format simple to create? 

I don't know - that is yet another level of mysterious complexity!  I'll take a look and see if I can figure it out.

Got it!  There are two options under the user name, one called 'Create plant' and one called 'Create photo'.  If the plant already exists in the database, then the 'Create photo' option is used, and the proper species is selected from the drop down menu near the bottom.  This creates the nice box with the separate text and the clickable picture. 

On the other hand, if the plant doesn't yet exist in the database,  a person would go through the procedure you described to set up the species or plant.  However, any text and comments can wait for the second step.  After the plant is set up, then a person would go to the 'Create photo' option and attach the picture again, this time with any commentary or descriptions.

Yes, you figured it out!  Well done!  I had dashed off the instructions above quickly, without absorbing all of what Todd had written... but you did figure it out!

I'll write up Todd's (and your) instructions a bit more formally and see if I can get someone to make it into a sticky.
