north facing stone wall

Hi
I have attached a stone wall we built two years ago with the growing saxifrages got from nurseries.This year all of them are doing well.

Did you plant anything on the south face?

I tried some campanula troegerae seedlings and sempervivums on the south side of the wall but all of them were fried by the sun

Krish, where is your wall located? It ought to be some plants that would love the sunny side too?!

Hi Hoy
the wall is at  one end of the lawn.the south side where it gets lots of light was made into a woodland garden with a small apple tree giving shades to most of the plants. At the edge of the wall on the south side I planted some campanula seedlings  germinated from the NARGS seeds.none of them survived. the saxifrages on the north side are doing very well. I will get some pictures soon.two saxifrages that grew nicely last year were victimized by birds .

Welcome to the Forum Krish.  Your Saxifrage growing on the north side of your wall looks great - now I know where to plant the one "Fair Maid of Kent" I recently bought at a plant sale.  I have learned to plant things that "don't like wet feet" on the south side of Cercis canadense where they get the "hot and dry" they need.  Interesting how a little shade or lack of it can make such a life or death difference.  We never stop learning, do we?  Fran
