Ranunculus parnassifolius

Description and General Information:

From a rosette of dark green, fleshy, rounded leaves, arise stems 15-20 cm topped with a loose cluster of brilliant white, five-petalled flowers. It typically blooms from late spring to early summer. It hails from alpine regions of the Pyrenees and Alps.

Blooming Season:

April in mild regions to as late as July in colder areas.

Cultivation:

This buttercup requires full sun or part shade and well-drained but moisture-retentive soil. It is not fussy regarding soil pH.

Propagation:

If you are lucky and your plant is thriving, it may be dug and divided after blooming.  Plants are relatively slow to increase and any drought spell can prove deadly. Seed is the most popular way of raising more plants.  Seeds need to be fresh and require a cold stratification period. GA may be used to coax older seed.
