Actaea asiatica

Actaea asiatica is a woodland species native to China, Japan, Korea and far east Russia, where it may grow at elevations of 300-3100m. Plants form clumps of unbranched stems 50-80 cm tall. The leaves are trifoliate and somewhat fern-like.  Terminal racemes of small white flowers are produced in April to June, followed by black berries with distinct red pedicels. It prefers organic-rich soil that stays reasonably moist. Full sun is tolerated in northern climates but otherwise grow it in part to full shade. It is hardy in zones 3-7.
