I planted something here but apparently failed (again!) to note the name... looks interesting. I don't recall planting Erythronium there... ? Trillium? Any ideas? Thanks.

Re: Variegated leaf something-or-other
Sun, 05/29/2011 - 8:04pmCould it be a lily? Sort of looks like photos I saw on this thread:

Mon, 05/30/2011 - 7:58pmAckkk! You're right! I thought all the martagons were present and accounted for, but, now poring over my map again, I see I planted Lilium tsingtauense there in '09... and so that must be it. Thank you very much!

Re: Variegated leaf something-or-other
Tue, 05/31/2011 - 5:42pmYes, that should be what it is, Lori, or something closely related. The variegation pattern is typical, although its intensity varies within the species, and it always fades as the leaves age. You'll know if it is the true L. tsingtauense if the flowers are completely upright. I have some seedlings coming of martagon x tsingtauense hybrid, hoping to breed some of that variegation and leaf ruffling into a better flowering hybrid. You never know: although no one else seems to have been, I might get lucky...
A natural L. tsingtauense hybrid
