I grow a variety of Astragalus newberryi. There are five varieties in this group aquarii, blyae, castoreus, escalantinus, and newberryi. I grow variety castoreus the most widespread.

Lori the plant it is intertwined with is Eriogonum ovalifolium var. williamsiae. These are growing at the Steamboat hot springs south of Reno.

Hmm, I'm starting to realize that the white flash on the banner petal of Astragalus (though it seems to be of varying size and prominence between individual flowers and species) must be almost ubiquitous in the genus?

Not quite, Lori, we have some species in Norway without that  white flash. This one among others (sorry, have no digital picture myself):

Others have more white, as this A. alpinus:



But not one of the familiar  Astragaluses (or Astraguli??) is as showy as A. newberry Wink
