I just read "Scientific American" (Oct. 2010) and they stated that most US citizens have slow Internett access. Is that correct? Can I ask what speed you have when up- or downloading pages?

Hmmm, interesting question.  It might be that most rural areas don't have high-speed access, but areas of larger population do have it.  I know that I had to wait quite a long time, only got high-speed cable access 3 years ago... all my friends as work would make fun of me because I still used slow dial-up connection, but they lived close to Boston, a major cosmopolitan city... I live about 40 miles away out in the "boonies" (i.e. a small rural town), and the cable companies are slow to bring these services to areas of low population.

Googled and found this article.  I'm surprised, I would have guessed that a higher percentage of US citizens are on high-speed access, higher than the 42% the article claims.

Yes, that was what they said. Here almost 90% have high-speed and 99.9% can get it if they want.
I think I have 15Mbits/s both ways (the first I wrote was wrong) but can upgrade to 400 if I want.
