Hello.
I am from Chile were alpines are all around us ( maybe they should be named andeans )thats why I love them, had been trying to cultivate them with some partials results , but it is a gratifying challenge.
It has been difficult for me to navigate in this web site as I am not used to the language.
Well, just wanted to say hello to everybody .

Gabriela, I join with fellow moderator Lori in welcoming you to the NARGS Forum. How exciting to have a forum member from Chile, with fantastic Chilean alpines all around. You mentioned that the language is a problem, but it seems your English is quite good... please feel free to join in as best you can. If you have any questions about using or navigating the forum, please go ahead and ask.
I'm a big fan of South American alpine flora, and have grown only a few species successfully, but hope to learn about how to grow many more. Any photos of native Chilean plants that you can share, or any other plants you are growing, I'm sure would be immensely appreciated here.
Please tell us a little bit about your climate... summer conditions, versus winter conditions, that will help forum members understand your growing conditions and the plants that you grow.
Cheers!

Welcome Gabriela!
Your English is very good. As Mark says, feel free to ask about this web site's navigation. And I also am elated to have a native Chilean participate here. You certainly have some very interesting Andean flora there!

And welcome from another of the moderators. It is wonderful to have someone from Chile on the forum. And we all look forward to seeing pictures of andeans.
Best wishes

Hello, Gabriella, I am from Norway and English is not my language either. But don't bother I think the English speaking here understand what you have to say anyway.
I have sown some Chilean seed the last two years and planted out some plants. Now I wonder how the plants have taken the bad winter this year!

Hi,
I think that I my garden is in the range of zone 6, our summer is very hot with an average of 30C degrees during the day and 15 degrees at night . It is very dry for about 6 months , so I have to water them every day. Winters have extreme changes in temperature , but the lowest temperature does not go lower than -10 C though.
My garden is located 60 kilometers from Santiago, Chile, and 1.200 mt from sea level, so it snows every year.
Here are two photos , one from Calceolaria filicaulis syn . biflora and Geum chiloensis, they are the only ones in flower now.

Ah! These I know!
Geum chiloense
is a common garden plant here in Norway and
Calceolaria biflora
have I had in my garden. Last year I planted several Calceolarias (from seed) but it remains to be seen if they have survived this unusually hard winter.

Thanks for the pictures Gabriela - great to see things in flower now - our year is only just starting. Are these plants that grow wild near you or are they from another part of Chile?
