Hi Roland,

To the right of the page, click "join now", and follow the prompts to become a member.  It is free.  Than you can post and personalize your settings.  The owner has built the site from the ground up, so the site might be a bit different than what you are used to.  I don't think there is an option to be notified of replies to your posts like there is on SRGC and NARGS. But if someone sends you a personal message (PM) through the site - they call it tree mail -you will be notified.

Roland, are you a NARGS member?  You do have to be, to add photos there.

No I am not because I am in Europe

Pity I can't post pictures
Maybe the NARGS has to  change their policy here too
like they did for the forum

Roland, NARGS Membership is available to people all around the world, it is not exclusively just for North Americans; the current NARGS membership includes members from all over the globe.  Being an active member of NARGS Forum that you are, you are free to post your own photos to this forum, as you've been doing, but currently the NARGS wiki is setup for edit access by current NARGS Members.  Since the NARGS forum is searchable, the photos and plant names included in the text portions of one's NARGS Forum posts, essentially equate to a database of information.

I don't think it would be a good idea to open the NARGS wiki photo gallery for additions by the general public.  I question the validity of a lot of photos posted at allthingsplants.com.  Unlike members of NARGS or SRGC (who have a lot more respect for each other), people who post on those more general plant sites can get very defensive (and angry) if you suggest the photo they entered is not what they labeled it as.

In my opinion, it is better to have a more accurate but smaller gallery, than a large one whose entries are more questionable.  It is a whole lot lest work for the site administrator, too.   Now if we could allow SRGC members to add entries, that might be a different method...

Well, I'm a member of SRGC (not just a forum participant) even though I'm in North America...  Wink  I am a member in both NARGS and SRGC for the benefits that each provides.

I agree that for a photo gallery to be an accurate (or at least reasonably accurate) and therefore a useful resource, it is generally preferable that it is not open to the general public.  I'm concerned with the large number of misidentified plants posted on sites that are open (even in cases where there are several moderators who are, theoretically, one would assume, checking the validity of the IDs(?)) and how such misleading data propagates out, "muddying" the public knowledge base and overwhelming even the correct examples sometimes.
