A Step-by-Step Guide to Editing Pages

To Begin

You have to be logged-in with your ID and password. As soon as you login, you'll notice some changes to the central field. Among these are icons and buttons that will enable you to input and manage information on the page.

There are three ways to write or edit:

  1. After logging in, you'll notice small icons of blue boxes with yellow pencils appear along the right side of the central field. Clicking on a pencil box enables you to edit the area just to the left of that box.
  2. Clicking on the icon of a page with yellow pencil at the top right corner of the page allows you to edit the whole page at once.
  3. Clicking the Edit button at the bottom left corner of the page also allows you to edit the whole page at once.

To Edit

When you click on an Edit button or pencil box, the page will change and the editable text will appear in different type within an enclosed box (see the screenshot below). Let's call this the Edit Box.

Now you treat it much as you would in any word-processing program, using the cursor to highlight, insert or delete words or entire paragraphs.

Clicking on the icons (see screenshot above) will make words bold, italicized, underlined, etc., just like the ones in any document or email. There are also icons to help you make headings, links, insert photos, rules, lists, etc. (more info to come).

When you want to see how the page will look, click one of the Preview buttons that is just above or just at the bottom of the Edit Box. (Don't be afraid, you haven't done anything permanent yet.)

The center field will change back to normal type and show the changed page at the top, along with a notice in red type to remind you that it is only a Preview. Don't worry, the Edit Box will still be there, only now it's been pushed down to the very bottom of the page (see screenshot below).

(Note: It is a common mistake to try to make changes to the "normal" Preview text. This will not work! You must scroll down to the Edit Box to make changes!)

You can go back and forth between the Edit Box and Preview as many times as you need. (Note: An edit session will expire in 24 minutes without a Preview or Save.)

When you're satisfied, click the Save button, and your Edit is done! The new page will display with a "Page saved" notice at the top (see screenshot below), so you'll be sure to know it worked. Congratulations!!

Note: If you decide not to make any changes, clicking on the Cancel Edit button will close your session and undo all changes you have made.
