Arisaema triphyllum ssp pusillum ID: 1716 Categories: Arisaema triphyllum ssp pusillum This small subspecies of the common eastern North American Jack-in-the-pulpit prefers wet soil and blooms later than its larger coisin Arisaema triphyllum subspecies triphyllum. A.T. ssp pusillium is diploid while A.t ssp triphyllum it tetraploid. I almost never see any hybrids in the wild even when both subspecies are growing within a few feet of each other. See the NARGS wiki for more information. The underside of the spathe hood limb is uniformly dark reddish black and the flange of the spathe is very narrow (the lip of the "pulpit"). Photo taken in the wild in eastern Pennsylvania by Mike Slater Created: Sun 29 of Nov., 2009 User: mike (480x640) (109939 Bytes) [2753 Hits] |
