| Rod is a masonry heater builder (stonemason) by trade, including stonewalls, and troughs.
Elisabeth is the alpine plant
enthusiast and gardener. Together they built gardens for
wet, icy, windy situations. This talk will cover some of the
trials (pleasures and problems) of the modern rock garden.

Liberty Hyde Bailey), conservator (Garden Conservancy founder) will speak on how a garden changes over
time. His vast experience includes the rock garden at Cold
Springs NY (Stonecrop), and
Les Quatre Vents in Canada.

Wall Plants Don’t Need Snow Cover
| Formerly co-owner of Twombly Nursery, and prior to that,
alpine manager at Oliver's, she is an expert horticulturist for
growing rock garden plants. Her planted walls are marvelous
to behold. She will illustrate the basics of creating beautiful vertical gardens, as well as alternative sites, with easily grown crevice plants.
In addition she will present some not-so-easily grown treasures for special places in your gardens. Join her as she gives tips on which alpines love
the wall!

Impacts of Climate on Alpine Plants
| Noted author and alpine gardener, his new book
Alpine
Plants discusses the ecology of alpines. This talk should give
us the lowdown on what alpines want to flourish in our garden conditions.
And not all alpines get a blanket of snow cover for winter in the wild. A resident of Wales (UK),
John is a leading alpine plantsman, author and expert. He is on the Rock Garden Committee of the Royal Horticultural Society.

Glamorous Gardeners, Glittering Gardens

Opinionated Gardener himself (winner of the prestigious
Quill and Trowel Award), as well as co-founder of the Berkshire Chapter, always delights us with his plant knowledge
and dry wit. He will depict gardens and their gardeners who
he knew from his early years in the American Rock Garden
Society. While technology has given modern gardeners
many tools, it has not replaced plantsmanship or design. |
