Alpine Photos While Thinking About The 2012 - 2013 Seed List...
As I have been thinking of the possibilities of what might be on the 2012 - 2013 Seed List, I decided to check out some of my "in the wild" photos of some alpine and "desert" alpine gems. Here's one of my favorites: Phlox muscoides OR P. bryoides or, or, or... there are several hybrids in the area where I collected the seed. All of them are sublime specimens of tight, caespitose buns.
Nothing may be as stark a realization as...
... the sudden realization that December 15th (when the NARGS Seed List is published)
has 24 hours just like all other days leading up to this day and you don't know in which
of the hours list will be open to view :-\
Morisia
Does Morisia do well from seed?
If so where can I purchase it from.
I have searched to buy plants but unfortunately it is not stocked.
Alpines October 2012
Some of these are probably more subalpines, but what the heck ;D
Tried to post once, unsuccessfully, hopefully wont end up with a double..
Rick asked about the plant behind a Sempervivum in another thread,
1,2 Polemonium boreale these are from seed spring 2012, so yet to overwinter; I have them planted in a couple of spots to see what they like..
Potting Mix
Just finished checking 51 plants in pots which have travelled 900 kilometres and were effectively under cover for 4 days from Thursday 27th to Sunday 30th. They all appear ok and about a dozen had also endured being inside for two days at a local show the previous weekend. Last year I had similar good results after taking 60 plus pots north to the annual Nelson AGS show. That also involved a round trip of 900 kilometres.
fountain gardens
Hi -
I'm new to the forum, but would like to share some experience with "miniature brass buttons", aka leptinella. I had seen this plant in an alpine garden and thought it might work well in my tabletop fountain gardens.
Despite the constant moisture, so far, so good: http://jimmueller2002.com/artwork/2692853_The_Shaman_s_Portal.html
Any others with similar experience, or advice?
Alpines September 2012
A couple of lupins bought from Beaver Creek and planted this year - Lupinus wyethii (with this year's seedling Salvia pachyphylla in the background - if it survives and thrives, it may one day outgrow its spot... I don't think I'll worry about that just yet ;)) and Lupinus aridus ssp. ashlandensis, which has put up a couple of flower buds:
