Joe and I leave Monday for Patagonia on Ger van den Beuken's trip.  I'm very excited.

Ann, how fantastic, have a great trip!  We hope to see lots of plant photos of fabulous Patagonian plants here on the forum upon your return.  And may the antlered rats be kept at bay while you're away.

I second that! Have a nice adventure :o ;)

Mark, we will be seeing many fabulous pea plants - can't wait.  The antlered rats will have to contend with chicken wire over a large part of the garden.  It's raised, so I don't think they will try and walk on it.  It is the only thing that is really successful other than the hunter who comes yearly.  They seem to thrive on the various deer sprays, including the ones that "always work".  Sprays wiull work when the deer population is not too high, but when the poopulation is veryhigh (as here), nothing works.  They will concentrate on the parts of the garden that are not protected by wire.  The garden is just too big to try and wire all of it.
