That is a new one to me! Why haven't I seen it? It really is something to look for!

That's Polygala paucifolia, not pauciflora! The flowers are never 'paucit'! It's one of my all-time favourite native plants but I can't seem to get it established. I've had seedlings a couple of times but they don't survive the move to the garden. Any suggestions?

(Moderator edit: topic name changed for species spelling)

Gardening on a wooded rocky ridge in the Ottawa Valley, Canada. Cold winters (-30C) and hot, humid summers. Nuts about native plants, ferns, pottery, my family, and Border Collies.

Lis, when did you plant them out?  What is your soil like?  How did you lose them?  Were they in full sun?

Going from memory: I planted them out in about June. The seedlings were small, only about 2" high with only a 'whorl' of 4 leaves. I think they'd been growing since the fall, in my greenhouse. I put them into woodsy soil in a dampish spot with intermittent shade from mixed maple/pine/cedar trees.

Maybe the soil wasn't acidic enough. Maybe they weren't damp enough..... if only the seeds weren't so hard to germinate. Must try again!
